Gurkha Services Outreach Worker - Wales

£21,000 per annum pro rata

18.75 hours per week  

Home based in Wales

Please note this role is fixed term for two years.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for A part-time Gurkha services Outreach Worker to join the Specialist Services Department at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, supports the person behind the uniform; any time they need us, in any way they need us, for as long as they need us. Every year, SSAFA helps more than 73,000 people from the Forces family to get back on their feet; those currently serving, reserves, veterans and their families. Support is there for people at any stage in their military career; from the youngest recruit to the oldest veteran – no one’s service is ever forgotten. We give hope, help and personal support for as long as it takes to get that person’s life back to where they want it to be.

About the role

This is a great opportunity for a fluent Nepali speaker to assist in providing casework, coaching and welfare services within the local Gurkha community in designated region. The role will enable you to fully utilise your fluent English and Nepali communication skills.

Under the direction of the Divisional Secretary and the Gurkha Services Manager, you will assist and support the Gurkha clients who approach SSAFA for help in developing links with the wider local community, assist them in integration, promote relevant activities and help them access local services, benefits and entitlements.

You will act as a SSAFA representative, advocate, interpreter and coordinator at client interviews during home visit appointments and assist in disseminating information appropriately to the volunteers and clients, as well as support in training activities.

About you

To carry out this role successfully you will have;

  • Excellent communication skills and be fluent in both English and Nepali with the ability to translate complex information between languages.
  • Strong organisational, written and IT skills (including using databases) with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Knowledge of Gurkha community and culture.
  • The ability to travel within the designated region
