Community Energy Champion

Salary: £21,000 p.a.

Location: Across South Wales M4 corridor, area to be confirmed

Accountable: Project Manager

Contract length: to 31st December 2020 with possible ongoing extension (subject to funding)

Established in 2004, Warm Wales works to provide homes with affordable warmth and to alleviate fuel poverty. We work closely with the public and private sectors to maximise funding opportunities which enable individual and area wide energy efficiency schemes.

We need highly skilled and energetic individuals to be responsible for delivering Warm Wales’ community focussed ‘Warm and Safe Homes’ project across South Wales. The focus of the job will be to work in selected communities to identify and help vulnerable fuel poor households particularly those in poor housing stock with insufficient heating and experiencing fuel poverty.

The role will be undertaken through a community based regeneration approach. The post will be full time and the main responsibilities are detailed below:

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Developing and implementing the ‘Warm and Safe Homes’ project in selected communities.
  • Building strong relationships within each community; liaising with local authorities, local councillors, police, churches etc. to create a presence in the community.
  • Arranging publicity, activities and events aimed at advertising and implementing the ‘Warm and Safe Homes’ project.
  • Delivering face to face advice and support in households, aiming to maximise income and minimise debt enabling  households to access any help available to them (tariff, benefits, CO, energy efficiency, mobility aids, heating, insulation etc.)
  • Recording survey details electronically & making appropriate referrals.
  • Delivering energy efficiency advice/training/workshops.
  • Monitoring outcomes and reporting.

Person Specification:

  • Experience of community working/working within client’s homes
  • The ability to relate to people of different age groups and to engage their interest
  • Self-motivated and experience of undertaking outreach work
  • Energy efficiency trained or awareness/interest and willing to obtain qualification
  • Full driving licence and access to vehicle for work use
  • Experience of project delivery and reporting of information
  • IT skills (word, excel, outlook, online database systems)

The post requires satisfactory DBS check and appropriate references to be obtained by warm Wales
