The main purpose of this post is to assist the property accountant with component accounting in accordance with Housing SORP and with the calculation of service charges for tenants, leaseholders and commercial properties through working closely with other areas of the business to supply accurate and timely information.

What will you do?

Managing the day-to-day maintenance of the property fixed asset register and calculating service charges.

Component Accounting

  • Supporting the Property Accountant with the management and maintenance of the Group property asset register by component.
  • Produce monthly reconciliations of property balance sheet accounts ensuring compliance with the monthly accounting timetable.
  • Assist the Property Accountant with data preparation for the notes to the Annual Financial Statements in relation to property assets.

Service Charges

  • Set service charge estimates for existing stock annually, complying with tenancy agreements and leases and with current legislation.
  • Regular reconciliation of tenants accounts on the housing system to ensure all service charge costs are recovered by incorporating the appropriate charge in the rent calculation.
  • Calculate actual service charges, providing a breakdown of service charges by property and issue year end statements of account, complying with agreements, leases and current legislation.

Assist with any other “ad hoc” financial reporting exercises in line with the level of the role and responsibilities.

Who are we looking for? (For more detail see Role Profile):

We are looking for an AAT qualified individual with experience of fixed asset accounting and preferably  service charges, ideally within the Housing sector. You will need an understanding of the preparation of financial accounts and manual reconciliations.

You will need to demonstrate excellent numeracy and literacy skills with attention to detail and be able to manage competing priorities whilst working under pressure.
