Who are we looking for?

We are seeking someone with a genuine passion and interest in data, to provide a valuable contribution to the data team and you will ideally have previous experience of working in a busy data environment. The person will be enthusiastic, an excellent communicator, analytical, numerical and looks at issues creatively with an ability to offer effective solutions.

The Business Intelligence project is being delivered by the data team using the BI tool Qlikview. In order to assist with the successful delivery of the project, experience of designing and developing Qlikview dashboards would be a desirable criteria. The BI project is being implemented in phases and this post offers exciting opportunities for further professional development as the project progresses.

The following key qualities are essential:

A proven track record in the use of MS excel and in-depth understanding of its capabilities – You will use your skills in excel to process, validate and present data. The ability to write complicated formula and create user friendly dashboards is essential. Practical experience of writing and applying VBA is desirable along with any experience of coding in the design of Qlikview dashboard. Your capabilities using MS excel will be assessed prior to interview. 

Experience of using and a strong understanding of relational databases - An understanding of relational databases and table joins is essential. You will need to interrogate our central databases to create queries and reports. Experience of using and writing reports in systems such as such SQL Server Reporting Systems (SSRS) and/or Qlikview would be desirable.

Numerate with well-developed skills in analysing and presenting data – You will be numerate and confident at writing complex formulas and calculations. Your ability to interrogate and make meaningful conclusions out of complicated datasets is paramount and relied upon by the business. You will be confident in analysing both quantitative and qualitative data sets and use a variety of presentation formats to convey your findings.

A keen eye for detail and accuracy – You take pride in the work you produce and strive for accuracy in everything that you do. Your diligence and keen eye for detail ensures that your work is thorough and accurate at all times. In addition you have a sound understanding of, and ability to work within the principles of data protection and confidentiality.

Communicate complex information to customers – The ability to process and analyse complex data sets is only part of the story. You will be confident at interpreting the results and form an evidence base that will help inform service delivery. Experience of developing/designing applications in QlikView would be desirable including assisting the user to define requirements through to designing and developing and testing the final product. You will have excellent report writing skills that concisely summarises findings using appropriate visuals to support your narrative. In addition you will be comfortable in presenting your findings orally in meetings or workshops.

Ability to manage own time and meet deadlines You will work efficiently and effectively in the management of your workload to balance daily tasks with projects and ad hoc requests for data and information. You will often work on your own initiative and balance this with supporting the wider team.

Customer focus – Working with both internal and external customers excellent communication skills are required to deliver outstanding levels of service.  You will be keen to ensure that requests for information are dealt with promptly and efficiently. You will be driven to do what matters for our customers, offering advice and support and providing information in the most effective format.

Empathy – You should empathise with what we do, why we do it and who we do it for. We are passionate about what we do each day to help our residents, regardless of whether we work on the front line or in a support function. You must embrace and live our values in everything that you do and possess a genuine empathy for both our residents and colleagues to help deliver our mission.
