Reports To: SHIN Manager

Term: Fixed term until end March 2019, with potential for extension subject to funding

Based At: Cardiff

Salary: £19, 566 per annum

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9.00 - 17.00 with flexibility for occasional evening and weekend work where the need arises

Introduction

The Wallich is a homelessness charity which provides support services to homeless and vulnerably-housed people. All post-holders within the organisation are required to work within The Wallich's values, policies, procedures and working practices, in support of the overall achievement of its mission and current business plan. This includes attendance at identified training courses and exhibiting behaviours which demonstrate respect for colleagues, clients and all other stakeholders, and which positively supports the reputation and work of the organisation.

Project Description

Street Homeless Information Network (SHIN) is a multi-agency cloud-based system designed to continually monitor and report rough sleeping number in Wales.

The project has three main elements:

  • To develop and promote SHIN across Wales to a range of agencies and organisations, including local authorities and third sector organisations.
  • To develop a network of 'rough sleeping volunteers' across Wales (SHIN Teams), focusing on areas which do not already have dedicated outreach teams or rough sleeping services.
  • To promoting StreetLink throughout communities; ensuring that local authorities and outreach teams are fully connected and that outcomes are consistently reported back.

Purpose of Role

To assist the SHIN Manager in creating SHIN teams across Wales, and to establish and promote a consistent and coordinated Wales-wide approach to responding to and monitoring of rough sleepers.

Person Profile 

Knowledge 

  • Understanding of the risks and needs of people who experience homelessness and rough sleeping.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the implications of social policies such as Welfare Reform.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how various issues can affect individuals, their vulnerability, and the consequential impact on communities
  • Knowledge and understanding of how your personal life can have positive and negative impacts on your own performance and attendance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the charitable sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of brand enhancement and protection.

Experience 

  • Delivery/development of services for vulnerable groups.
  • Using database systems to monitor specific areas of work.
  • Analysing datasets and producing reports on the gathered information.
  • Working with volunteers and providing training and development opportunities.
  • Using Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Outlook.
  • Working with diverse people in a non-judgemental way, respecting their personal choices
  • Professionally and effectively representing the wishes and best interests of Service Users and the organisation whilst building beneficial relationships with agencies and internal staff.
  • Effectively dealing with challenging situations whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Lone working, organising resources and prioritising workloads to meet deadlines.

Other 

  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Willingness to work across Wales. 
  • Ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable but not essential.

Induction details: New starters at The Wallich will be required to complete a 5 day Induction in Cardiff at the commencement of their employment.
