Job Role:
To deliver the required manufacturing throughput plan on time, and at the right cost and quality by leading and managing a team of manufacturing personnel.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
Operational Management
Drive and deliver throughput whilst achieving and improving key performance indicators (KPIs). The basic KPIs include daily throughput, OTIF, quality (scrap, concessions, rework, yield), productivity, operational cost (headcount, overtime, consumables, tools & dies, sub-contract spend), inventory, absence, lead time and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Drive the operation using Theory of Constraint (ToC) principles, and ensuring that ToC is fully embedded in the operation.
Ensure exemplary Health Safety and Environmental standards (including ISO14001) are achieved
Establish and develop appropriate working patterns to deliver the required throughput at minimum cost to the business.
Identify critical resources and then ensure they are managed effectively.
Establish and drive Continuous Improvement within the Value Stream, encouraging staff to take a proactive approach to Continuous Improvement.
Business Management
Ensure a budget control structure is in place and execute budget control.
As a member of the General Managers team, work with colleagues in delivering the future of the site, delivering a business with increased overall value.
Develop and deliver a vision and plan for the Value Stream which compliments the overall site direction, and work proactively to achieve this goal.
Identify, specify and generate business cases as necessary for Capital Expenditure.
Identify clear KPI targets and analyse performance and variances, ensuring corrective actions and lessons learnt are identified, implemented and embedded.
Understand Value Stream performance in the context of the overall business, including key financial impacts and levers so that overall business performance is influenced e.g. through weekly P&L meetings.
Systems and Procedures
Ensure the disciplines of working within an MRP system (EFACS) are respected and maintained. This includes work booking and route card management and control.
Monitor internal rework and customer concerns and ensure that the appropriate corrective actions are taken.
Responsible for compliance to Health & Safety, Environment and Employment Law.
Person Profile - Skills & Experience:
Experience working in a challenging operational role, and have a proven track record with demonstrable results.
Experience in Lean production techniques is essential knowledge of The Theory of Constraints would be an advantage.
Ability to understand and interpret production data, analyse trends and take appropriate corrective action.
Must have good fundamental understanding of Quality, and possess good problem solving skills.
Possession of Quality Tools and techniques is desirable, but not essential. This would ideally include formal Six Sigma skills and experience.
Demonstrable ability to lead, manage and motivate team members effectively - excellent interpersonal skills are essential, with a fair but firm style.
Demonstrate the ability to make decisions, taking into consideration all relevant and available information.
Excellent planning & organisational skills, able to plan ahead, complete tasks on time and to the required standard.
