Permanent part time General Secretary sought for the Welsh Independent Schools Council.
The Role
The Welsh Independent Schools Council (WISC) is the umbrella body representing independent schools in Wales. The majority of children in Welsh independent schools are in WISC schools: WISC therefore speaks for the sector as a whole. WISC is strictly independent of all political parties. WISC is developing its role as an important interlocutor for the Welsh Assembly, Estyn and the relevant Welsh authorities.
Critical to our success will be the ability of the General Secretary to maintain a constructive dialogue with Government, regulators and officials whilst being fearless in campaigning for proportionate regulation. WISC is also an important contact point for the media in Wales.
The General Secretary will support heads, bursars and governors in WISC schools, liaising where necessary with the Independent Schools Council (ISC) in London.
Person specification
We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and professional individual who is proactive, an excellent networker, credible and comfortable dealing with Government, regulators and officials as well as the media and education professionals. Experience of relevant legal or education issues may be advantageous, but as important will be the ability and willingness to master new subjects and project our sector’s messages effectively.
The successful candidate would ideally live in Southern Wales but would need to be prepared to travel around Wales for meetings.
Please apply by 17 September 2010 with full cv and covering letter.
Interviews will be held in Cardiff on 1st October 2010.
