JOB PURPOSE
To install satellite platforms and networking equipment to vehicles and buildings and to commission, configure and test installed equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES /DUTIES/ KEY AREAS
- Read job sheets, specification documents, site plans and project meetings (where relevant) and prepare all necessary equipment to complete jobs.
- Liaise with customers to find out relevant information and keep them informed of job progress.
- On job completion, test system and train customers on its functions, supplying a manual where possible.
- Where required, solve practical problems: detect and repair system faults.
- Adhere to all health and safety requirements.
- Participate in meetings with external site teams and within own company environment.
- Complete all paperwork (including time sheets and expenses) to specified standards and submit by stated deadlines.
- Ensure that Return Maintenance Authorisations (RMA) products are processed in a timely fashion following company procedures.
- Keep management and the office team updated of job progress and provide them with technical support when required.
- Support colleagues through offering assistance and training when required.
- Consistently update own technical knowledge.
- Look after company vehicle according to specified standards.
- Ensure that company tools, equipment and consumables are kept safe, clean, serviceable, accounted for and returned to their designated location.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned on an as needed basis.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THE JOB
Applicants must be able to demonstrate understanding, experience and ability as follows:
Essential
- Basic experience in computer networking.
- Computer Networking design, fault diagnosis, configuration (routers, switches firewalling etc C.N.A./E would be highly advantage)
- Must hold a full driving licence.
- Must pass a security vetting check.
- Demonstrable experience and competence in the use of power and hand tools
- Be able to work at heights using ladders and cherry picker vehicles and work within confined spaces.
- May be required to drive for long distances and stay in overnight accommodations
- Some heavy lifting may be required
Desirable
- WAN/Wireless installation and configuration experience would be an advantage
- At least 2 years direct experience in similar profession that involves electronic repairs, network cabling, LAN installation and configuration and peripheral installations and maintenance.
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or IT-related electronics field
- Professional IT certifications will be advantageous
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Exposed to a warehouse environment and occasionally required to lift weights up to 50 lbs.
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts and high precarious places.
- Exposed to outside weather conditions; wet, extreme cold and heat.
- The surrounding noise level may be high.
- On occasion, the employee will work within an office environment.
