Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) Level 3
Course Cost £700 plus VAT
This qualification satisfies the government requirement for teachers, tutors and trainers to hold an award in preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector.
It can be undertaken by those who need an initial award for their role as a teacher or trainer in the lifelong learning sector or by those who want to teach in an FE College, tutor in an Adult and Community Learning Centre or be a trainer for a Learning Provider.
Course Aim:
This award is for those who are or who want to be a teacher, tutor or trainer and need to be able to plan, prepare and implement learning for a specialist area
Course Objectives:
On completion of the one mandatory unit, learners will have demonstrated that they are able to:
- Understand the teacher’s role and legislative requirements
- Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches
- Demonstrate session planning skills
- Deliver and evaluate learning
- Understand the use of assessment methods and reasons for keeping records of Assessment
Opportunities for Progression:
On completion of this qualification those enabling learning could:
- Add further units in order to gain the Level 3 or Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, for the associate teacher role
- Work towards the Level 5 or Level 6 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, for the full teaching role
- Once they have gained the Level 5 or Level 6 Diploma, undertake continuing professional development in order to be awarded Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS)
Entry Requirements:
- All entrants need to have the personal and intellectual qualities to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to gain this award
- All entrants are able to read effectively, and are able to communicate clearly and accurately in spoken and written standard English
- Systems are in place to seek information on whether entrants have a criminal background which might prevent them working with young people or vulnerable adults, as a teacher, trainer or tutor
- Entrants normally need to hold relevant vocational and/or academic qualifications at least one level above those of their learners
- There needs to be a documented process for interviewing both external and "in-house" entrants as part of the selection process.
