Job Description

An opportunity is available within the Council’s Performance & Insight Team for a Business Analyst who is interested in being at the heart of the Council’s performance and improvement agenda.

There are currently two vacancies available. One is a permanent post within the team and will support ongoing and incoming work across a variety of workstreams and projects. One is fixed a term 2 year post dedicated to work primarily on a specific project as part of a specific programme of work.

The Performance & Insight Team is made up of analysts and performance specialists and is responsible for driving forward some of the Council’s core business intelligence projects.

The work of the Team is closely aligned to the strategic priorities of the organisation and our public service partners, working closely with all Council services to support them in improving their performance, and delivering key cross-cutting projects.

About the job

IMPORTANT: Please read the Additional Information section for guidance on how to apply for this role to ensure your supporting statement is submitted in the correct format.

This is a Senior Business Analyst role, which will sit within the Performance & Insight Team.

The successful candidate will support a programme of business intelligence projects by analysing datasets, mapping processes, and defining requirements.

Many of our projects involve working with complex performance data, therefore a good level of data literacy is essential.

You will be part of a highly motivated, dedicated, and supportive team, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work and supporting public service delivery.

There will be ample opportunity for personal and professional development, including training relevant to the role.

The Council has adopted hybrid working practices which apply to this role, meaning most of the work can be undertaken either in the office, at home, or at another suitable location. There will still be a requirement to visit the office occasionally for certain meetings as needed.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for an individual with strong analytical skills, an ability to holistically assess a problem from multiple angles, who is comfortable working with complex data, and has an interest in change and improvement.

You will have strong communication and writing skills, able to prepare reports and present information clearly and effectively for a range of different audiences, from senior managers to end users.

You will have experience of undertaking research and analysis, both independently and as part of a team, and you will have an aptitude for problem solving, being able to identify issues and recommend options for improvement.

A good level of ICT competency will be a pre-requisite, specifically, familiarity with Microsoft Office. Experience of more specialist tools, such as Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, or Microsoft Power BI would also be advantageous.

Most importantly, we encourage applications from individuals who are passionate about public service improvement and enjoy working as part of an effective team.
